Published On January 23, 2016.
Can we meet you?
I am ADEYINKA ABDUL-RASHEED ADEYI by name, hails from Ilorin, kwara State but born and groomed in Sagamu, Remo, Ogun State, Nigeria.
What's your level of education?
I am a mass communication graduate from Kwara State University.
What prompted you in to music?
I was born into an entertainment family which can be said to be the bed rock of my musical career, my Dad Mr ADEYI (a.k.a ONIKOBOKO) is a well known Fuji artiste in Ogun State, likewise my Mum Mrs ADEYI, though she started as a hair stylist but later mastered in Engagement Consultant field (Alaga) which she still do till date.
What's your own style of music?
I coined my style of music as "classic Afro-Pop"
Who are your roll models?
My own style of classic Afro-pop which can be said to have been immensely gingered through the evergreen songs of the likes of; Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Dr Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, Beautiful Nubia, Abolore Akande (9ice) and Tuface Idibia (2Baba).
How does the name "STYLE" came to being?
(Laugh)...I choose STYLE as stage name following the overlapping stage names of artistes in Nigeria music industry, instead of going through the norms; either by adding name to existing one or by developing an unexplainable foreign name. STYLE was derived from the first letters of my names; Adeyinka Rasheed Adeyi (ARA, a Yoruba word) which also means STYLE grammatically, for the purpose of general pronunciation I choose the English version, nonetheless if any fan call me ARA, I would gladly answer to it.
Can you name some of the Artistes that you've done collaborations with?
Have done couples of works, singles and collaborations with good and respected artiste in the industry; Musiliu Haruna Ishola, Akeens Freshboi, Midinmidin, MC Magic among others.
We heard that you've done jingles for notable politicians during the last election, can you name some of them?
Kwara State Governor; Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed, Honourable Ladi Adebutu Kensington (Member, House Of Rep)
Honourable Yinka Mafe (Majority Leader, Ogun House Of Assembly)
What's your source of inspiration?
Listening to good music and the everyday Life Happenings...
Are you a christian or Muslim?
I'm a practising, active and devoted muslim.
When do you intend to marry?
(Laugh)....Marriage: not see it coming anytime soon, money and respect come first, with that, good and respectable woman will come.
If not a Musician, what would you have become?
I'm a qualified mass communicator, hence, the media is where I would be venturing in if not music, meanwhile am still in the media because music is also part of the media and it's something that I love doing, I don't think music can take away being a broadcast professional, a journalist or PR/Advert practitioner from me.
What can you say about your musical journey so far?
First and foremost, I thank God wholeheartedly for being there for me from time to time, my music journey has been so interesting and on the other side boring....Interesting; I received love and gain more fans at every single released and every performance done, which tells me that am going to places...Boring; not enough capital to invest on the business, this has been the major setback because without money, promotion can't be met and without promotion your music can't be aired nor heard by the targeted audience which is Nigerians home and in diaspora.
...Still on Music Journey: Have been singing right from age of 7 and performing from the age of 15, which was the same age that have been composing and recording good music.
For all these, a big thanks to my Dad's musical instruments and the aides of his band member who were given the necessary support then.
Looking ahead, where do you see yourself in ten years time?
In ten years time: though the industry is quite challenging and competitive, but my originality and creativity would work for me, I foresee my music empire so to say, I envisage being a legend in the "Classic Afro Pop" business with legendary works which will be passed from generations to generations, I pray.
A word of advise for young people like you out there.
To all the up and coming artiste like myself outside there,I will quote a man in person of H. Jackson Brown,Jr. which says:"Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures" and "Let the refining and improving of your own life
keep you so busy that you have little time to
criticise others"
Life doesn't require that we be the best, only
that we try our best possible.
Finally, can you send a shoutout to all your fans out there?
Wad Up fans, it's your boy STYLE saying big thank you for your love and everyday untiring listening to my works, Iwaju lopa ebiti yin a ma re si ooo, aamin.
