Tribunal cannot stop my inauguration – Kogi gov-elect
January 23, 2016.

Mr. Joseph Daudu (SAN), Counsel to Kogi State Governor-elect, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has reiterated the fact that the election petition tribunal was not constitutionally empowered to stop the swearing-in of governor-elect.
Daudu was speaking when he opposed the two motions on notice seeking an order of the tribunal to stop the inauguration slated for January 27.

The motions filed by the counsels to Governor Idris Wada of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Chris Uche (SAN) and the Labour Party, Reuben Egwuaba Esq Daudu in his submission strengthened by a 31-paragraph counter affidavit, urged the tribunal to dismiss the motion on that ground.

Counsels to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Dr. Alex Izinyon (SAN) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), Charles Edosomwan (SAN) also opposed the motion in their submissions.

The Tribunal, however, set Monday January 25, for ruling on the two separate motions seeking to stop the inauguration of Alhaji Yahaya Bello as governor on January 27.
