US deports 41 Nigerians over drug, immigration offences
No fewer than 41 Nigerians were on Wednesday deported from the
United States over issues ranging from drug, police and immigration
offences.
It was reliably gathered that nine of the deportees were sent back
to Nigeria for drug related offences, 26 for Police related offences
while six were deported for immigration offences.
Reports say the deportees, who were all males, arrived the Murtala
Mohammed International Airport at 12:20pm aboard a Miami Air
International aircraft.
In a telephone interview with our correspondent, the spokesperson
for the Nigeria Immigration Service, Deputy Controller of Immigration
King Ekpedeme, confirmed the deportation to The PUNCH, saying, “Yes, it is true. They were deported for various offences, including immigration offences.”
The deportation is coming barely a week after 162 Nigerians who had been stranded in Libya returned to Nigeria voluntarily.
