Six arrested for killing commandant
The Nigerian Army, 2 Division, has
arrested a gang of six men for allegedly killing the Commandant of the
Command Secondary School, Ibadan, Oyo State, Col. Anthony Okeyim.
The commandant was killed in December 12, 2016, on the school premises.
It was reported that the deceased was strangled.
Autopsy report said the deceased died as
a result of “rise in intracranial pressure from intracranial
haemorrhage caused by fracture of the skull.”
Okeyim was promoted to the rank of
brigadier three weeks before his death, but he had yet to be decorated
with the rank before he was murdered.
The arrested suspects, who were paraded
by the Nigerian Army in Ibadan, were said to have played various roles
in the killing of Okeyim.
The suspects are Solomon Emmanuel, 20; Bibisoye Kehinde, aka Efrebor, 27; Taiwo Adeniyi, 34; Ewere Andrew, 25; Ephraim Obi, 38; and Udobata Onusa, aka Kaka, 28.
Deputy Director, Public Relations, 2
Division of the Nigerian Army, Ibadan, Col. Timothy Antigha, said a
Samsung X4 mobile phone, which was stolen from Okeyim helped in
apprehending the killers, adding that it was found in Emmanuel’s
possession.
Anthiga said Emmanuel, who claimed to
have got the handset from Adeniyi, also confessed that on the night of
December 11, 2016, he and the other suspects went to the school in a
Toyota Camry belonging to him. Anthiga said another suspect, Kehinde,
also confessed that he switched off their victim’s generator when they
got to his house.
He added that investigation revealed
that Adeniyi was notified of the plot to attack the late commandant by
Emannuel, and that he was present at the scene of the murder.
“On behalf of the General Officer
Commanding, 2 Division, Maj. Gen. Chukwunedum Abraham, I thank the
Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services, Oyo State
Command, for their invaluable support, without which very little
progress would have been made in unearthing the circumstances
surrounding the death of the late senior officer,” Anthiga said.
