INSECURITY: Declare Bandits, Kidnappers As Terrorists To Effectively Fight Insecurity, Assembly Speakers Tell Buhari

The Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria has called on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency, declare acts of banditry and kidnapping in the country as act of terrorism and as such deal with the perpetrators decisively in accordance with the relevant laws against acts of terrorism. 

The call was part of the communique issued at the end of the meeting of the conference held in Katsina on Saturday signed by the Conference Chairman, Abubakar Y Suleiman.

The Conference, again, decried the spate of insecurity in the country; and resolved to work out legislative frameworks to compliment the efforts of the Federal Government to fight insecurity in Nigeria.

The Conference also resolved to make appropriate laws to address fundamental issues that breed insecurity in the land as well as creating employment for the youths with a view to curbing the menace of insecurity in the country.

The Conference, while commending the Governors who have given assents to the Fund Management Bills passed by their respective State Houses of Assembly, called on other state Governors who are yet to do so, to give assents to the noble Bill for effective and efficient implementation of financial autonomy across the nation.

The Conference also commended and appreciated the efforts of the Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Bello Masari, and the Speaker, Katsina State House of Assembly, Tasiu Musa Maigari for hosting the 3rd Quarter General Meeting of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures with the theme: “The Menace of Insecurity in the Country and the Role of State Assemblies to Restore Peace and Order.”
