On the 20th of February, 2023 was a black day in the history of Sagamu local government where a violent protest was said to have been staged due to cash scarcity ravaging the entire country.

Many properties such as Banks, IBEDC office, Sagamu local government secretariat, amongst others were set ablaze and destroyed by the angry and violent protesters.

Since then, all banks in Sagamu have ceased to operate within Sagamu metropolis, saying their lives are not protected considering the ugly incident.

His royal majesty, Oba Dr Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, Torungbuwa II, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland who's also the Chairman, Ogun State Council of Obas convened an emergency meeting of all banks and branch Managers in his Palace at the conference hall, Ita Oba, Sagamu, Ogun State on the 1st of March, 2023.

During the meeting, Akarigbo expressed his displeasure over the recent violent protest and sent his condolence messages to all the affected banks within Sagamu metropolis.

A close source to the Palace told SON correspondent that all the banks in Sagamu are contemplating not to operate in Sagamu again which has made Akarigbo to call on them and plead with them so that the situation can be ameliorated.

As at the time of filing this report, Akarigbo is still in talking terms with those bank Managers and whether they would still operate in Sagamu or not remains sketchy due to the damages meted on the banks by the violent protesters.

Those in attendance included, Chairperson of all banks in Sagamu, banks and branches Managers in Sagamu, Representatives of Remo growth and development Foundation (RGDF), representatives of RIDSCo, Bamoofin of Remoland, Chief of Staff to Akarigbo of Remoland amongst others.
