Sagamu Youth Association Engages Emzor Pharmaceuticals On Employment, CSR, And Youth Empowerment
The executives of the Sagamu Youth Association (SYA) today paid a familiarization visit to Emzor Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd, located within the Sagamu Interchange Industrial Area.
The purpose of the visit was to initiate dialogue on issues critical to community development, including employment opportunities for Sagamu youths, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), empowerment initiatives, and human capacity building. The SYA executives were warmly received by Emzor’s management team ably led by Mr Uzor Nicholas (Asst HSC manager), Mr Akoji (HR, Business Partner) and Mrs Sofoluwe (HR General), who expressed appreciation for the association’s efforts in advocating for the rights and welfare of the host community.
During the engagement, the management of Emzor Pharmaceuticals disclosed that over 70% of the company’s current workforce is drawn from Sagamu, and pledged their commitment to increasing this number by offering more employment opportunities to local residents which the task has been given to the executives to refer qualified applicants for employments. The company also assured the youth representatives of its readiness to enhance collaboration and foster inclusive development.
One of the key matters raised by the association was the revalidation of the company’s Community Liaison Officer (CLO). The SYA executives emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in community representation, and called for renewed efforts in aligning the CLO office with current community expectations. Emzor’s management acknowledged the association’s concern and assured that the request would be given due consideration.
On the issue of CSR, Emzor Pharmaceuticals outlined several initiatives it has undertaken within the host community, including the installation of a power transformer in Iwelepe, medical outreaches at the Akarigbo Palace, OOUTH in Ikenne, and support for various churches in town. Notably, the company also constructed the dual-tunnel road connecting Iwelepe to the Sagamu Tollgate, a major infrastructure contribution to ease traffic and improve accessibility.
While recognizing these contributions, the Sagamu Youth Association encouraged the company to scale up its CSR interventions by engaging the Royal Initiative for Development of Sagamu Communities (RIDSCo) to reflect the growing needs of the Sagamu populace. They advocated for broader programs such as vocational training, entrepreneurial empowerment, and youth internships, particularly for recent graduates and skilled tradespeople.
In response, Emzor Pharmaceuticals commended the association for its constructive engagement and assured that plans were underway to deepen its commitment to youth development. The management promised to consider new areas of support and collaboration that would benefit the community at large.
The Sagamu Youth Association expressed gratitude to Emzor for its openness, stating that the visit has laid the foundation for a stronger, more productive relationship between the company and Sagamu youths. The association reaffirmed its dedication to working with stakeholders for the betterment of Sagamu and the advancement of its people.
This familiarization visit is part of the Sagamu Youth Association’s ongoing effort to build strategic partnerships with corporate entities and foster community-led development.
