Death toll reaches 35 after Cameroon suicide attacks
January 26, 2016
At least 35 people are now known to have died following four suicide attacks on a market and town in the Far North region of Cameroon near the border with Nigeria on early Monday, January 25.
A military source has said about 35 people died including the bombers and some 80 others injured.
The source said additional forces have been deployed to the locality of Bodo in the Logone and Chari division where bombers targeted a local market.
State broadcaster Cameroon Radio Television (CRTV) is reporting 32 people were killed and 66 wounded.
Authorities in Cameroon blamed the attack on the Nigerian jihadist group, Boko Haram.
The Boko Haram militia group that pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group (ISIS) last year is in its seventh year of an insurgency to establish an Islamic caliphate in northeastern Nigeria.
The group has stepped up attacks in neighbouring Cameroon, Chad and Niger since last year.
Along with Chad, Niger, Nigeria and Benin, Cameroon has contributed troops to an 8,700-strong regional task force dedicated to fighting Boko Haram.
