The gang that kidnapped Pa Gabriel Oloro, a farmer, in Ikere Ekiti has demanded N40m ransom from the family to secure his release.
The Octogenarian was kidnapped on January 20 while returning home from his farm by yet to be identified kidnappers.
A friend of the family said on Tuesday that the father of a former chairman of Ojodu Local Council Development Area in Lagos, Mr. Julius Oloro, was with wife and two children when he was kidnapped.
“Baba was driving home in his Toyota Camry with his wife and two children around 9.30 p.m when the kidnappers barricaded the road. They dropped the two children and took him away with his wife.
“When they got to State Hospital along Ife road, they dropped the wife. Around 2 a.m, they returned the vehicle to the house. They later contacted the family and demanded N40m ransom.”
When contacted for clarification, Mr. Oloro (the son), said the matter had been reported to the police but there had been no “tangible feedback.”
He also said the ransom had been reduced to N10m by the kidnappers.
“The kidnappers probably thought that as a former LCDA boss, I mint money. Where do they expect me to get that kind of money from?”
The Ekiti Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Alberto Adeyemi, confirmed the incident.
He said Police had already launched a manhunt for the kidnappers, assuring the victim would be released soon.
