June 22nd, 2022 was a memorable day in the history of Sagamu as Concerned Sagamu Stakeholders took to the street of Sagamu, where they staged a 3in1 protest against cult killings, IBEDC extortion and high rate of unemployment in Sagamu metropolis.
Below is the press release from the stakeholders which was shared with Save Our Nation SON and signed by the Committee Chairman, Comrade Kayode Segun-Okeowo Ikenga.
PRESS RELEASE!
Greatest Sagamite!!! Ewaa!!!
"Sequel to the earlier Peaceful Protest/ Press Conference briefing by the Concerned Sagamu Stakeholders, held on Wednesday 22nd of June, 2022 at the Sagamu Town Hall on three points lingering issues such as; Say no to cult killings in Sagamu, say no to IBEDC extortion/ crazy bills in Sagamu local government and say no to high rate of unemployment in Sagamu and its environs.
"Even though the committee members have been inundated with several calls and messages, where youths are calling for updates while some are applauding and commending the effort of the stakeholders for taking such bold steps as some affirmed that electricity supply has improved in some areas within Sagamu metropolis.
"During the peaceful protest and press conference, our demands were well stipulated and put forward to IBEDC management in which a 7-day ultimatum was given to them to reach out to the stakeholders, failure to do so will amount to shutting down of all their offices across Sagamu local government.
"However, it was stated during the press conference that the Concerned Stakeholders, on behalf of the great and glorious people of Sagamu resolved and demanded as follow;
- We hereby mandate IBEDC to stop the unlawful imposition of outrageous estimated billing systems on the electricity consumers in Sagamu and it's environs.
- IBEDC must ensure and begin a process of supply of free prepaid meters to all electricity consumers in Sagamu.
- Cancellation of all questionable accumulated debts based on estimated billings prior to the mandated installation of prepaid metres.
- We say Enough is Enough to IBEDC exploitations and extortions on the good people of Sagamu.
- We hereby use this medium to send a very strong warning to IBEDC management not to attempt to disregard any of our demands.
- We demand that IBEDC points to community social responsibility (CSR) if any, being a private enterprise.
- That IBEDC hasn't been customer friendly with the people of Sagamu.
- We say NO LIGHT NO BILL.
"Having promised to continually keep the entire youths and general public posted as events unfold on the three pivotal points agenda, below are our resolutions during the Concerned Stakeholders' meeting with IBEDC management on Sunday, June 26th, 2022.
- The IBEDC management shall henceforth be customer friendly with the people of Sagamu.
- That IBEDC shall work on the unlawful imposition of outrageous estimated billing system and ensure that the energy cost on the estimated billing system is drastically reduced to the bearest minimum starting from this coming month until the national grid resolve the issue of generating energy.
- That they shall manage the megawatt given daily to ensure that no area in Sagamu is cheated.
- On metering, all Sagamites are enjoined to hold on and be patient till the meter is in circulation so that all houses can be metered freely. However, anyone who can't excercise patience could approach or visit IBEDC Office and pay through MAP, and they will refund the money spent on meter back through energy consumption. (i:e, if you purchase energy of 2000, you will get energy of 4000 till all your money is dully refunded.
- There shall be information dissemination from IBEDC to the general public on any power outage within Sagamu metropolis.
- That IBEDC exploitations and extortions on the good people of Sagamu in any form shall stop.
"In view of the above resolution, we the Concerned Sagamu Stakeholders hereby suspend the 7-day ultimatum given to IBEDC during the peaceful protest and press conference.
"We therefore use this medium to assure the youths and great people of Sagamu that we the stakeholders will continually do a follow up on our demands till they are all met and actualized".
