Sagamu Youths Demand Justice, Equity, Fairness In State Creation Save Our Nation SON March 5, 2025 BEING THE TEXT OF A PRESS CONFERENCE BY THE PRESIDENT, SAGAMU YOUTH ASSOCIATION, COMRADE OLUGBENGA LAWAL (AMB. EASY), ON THE PROPOSED CREATION OF REMO/IJEBU STATE Date: Tues., March 4th, 2025 Venue: Sagamu Townhall His Royal Highnesses, Eminent Personalities, Distinguished and Esteemed Leaders, Fellow Sons and Daughter of Remoland, Gentlemen and ladies of the Press. And For the greatest Sagamites.......Ewaaaa! I stand before you today, not only as the President of the Sagamu Youth Association but as a proud son of Remoland, speaking on an issue that is critical to our collective future and responsibilities on proposed creation of Remo/Ijebu State. We are at a defining moment in our history. The quest for a new state is indeed long overdue and it is not just about political reconfiguration; it is about identity, fairness, justice and ensuring that both the Remo and Ijebu people have a structure that genuinely represents their interests. For years, we have witnessed the continuous arguments on superiority of Remoland with Ijebu within the current Ogun State framework. While we remain proud of our contributions to the state’s economic and political development, we cannot ignore the need for an administrative arrangement that fully recognizes and respects the historical and cultural significance of our people. OUR DEMANDS AND PROPOSALS 1. The Name of the Proposed State: We propose a name that reflects the shared heritage and identity of both the Remo and Ijebu people. A fair and inclusive name such as "Remo-Ijebu State" will ensure that no group is sidelined. However, if the name "Ijebu State" is chosen, we categorically state without mincing words that this must come with clear and just arrangements for Remoland’s political and economic representation. 2. The Capital of the Proposed State: It is imperative that the capital of the new state reflects a balance of interests. To maintain fairness and prevent undue dominance, we propose Sagamu, Remo, as the capital due to its strategic location, infrastructural development and historical importance. 3. Fair Local Government Distribution: To ensure equity, we propose a fair and balanced allocation of Local Government Areas (LGAs), with a 55% allocation for Ijebu and 45% for Remo. This will ensure adequate representation in governance and resource distribution. 4. Acknowledging Our Historical Ties: The history of Remo and Ijebu relations is well documented. Records such as: The 1894 Agreement and Proclamation The 1906 Agreements, the year Ooni of Ife (Olugbuse 1) first slept outside of Palace to come and settled the issues between Elepe and Akarigbo. The 1937 Martindale Commission of Inquiry These historical documents reinforce the distinct identities of our kingdoms while affirming our interconnected past. We acknowledge and appreciate the leadership of our revered royal fathers: His Royal Majesty, Oba Sikiru Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebuland, whose wisdom and foresight have continued to guide the Ijebu people. His Royal Majesty, Oba Adewale Ajayi, the Akarigbo of Remoland, for his unwavering commitment to the progress of Remo people. We also commend the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his leadership and governance. Additionally, we recognize Senator Otunba Gbenga Justus Daniel for championing the push for the creation of the new state. The path ahead requires unity, strategic engagement, and unwavering commitment. We cannot afford to be divided or distracted by political sentiments that do not serve our collective interests. To my fellow Remo sons and daughters—both at home and in the diaspora—I urge you to: Lend your voices to this cause. Engage with your representatives at all levels. Support our traditional institutions as they negotiate our future. Let it be known that Remo will not be sidelined! We are not just bystanders in history; we are active participants in shaping our destiny. As we move forward, let us remember that justice, equity, and fairness must remain our guiding principles. The creation of Remo/Ijebu State is not a privilege but a necessity for balanced development and representation. We stand firm in our demand. We stand united in our resolve. And we will not stop until our voices are heard and our rights are secured. Together, we can achieve greatness. Thank you. It was a sad moment for some family members when they discovered that their dead relative whose body was deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, Ogun State, went missing.

Journalists gathered that the family members of the deceased were at the hospital on Friday January 27, 2023 for the retrieval of the remains of the corpse, deposited over four months ago, for burial.

Responding to the development on Monday, April 10, 2023, the management of the OOUTH expressed concern and affirmed that the missing corpse has finally been found.

Chief Medical Director, Dr. Oluwabunmi Fatungase, with some security agencies mostly the department of security services in the state had embarked on thorough investigations since the corpse got missing early this year.

According to the information gathered by SON, the other family had gone to bury a Corpse who wasn't their mother but due to physical resemblance.

The OOUTH Management with the help of security agencies did a through profiling and they got to know that the identity of the Corpse that was burial at Ode Community was still intact at the hospital.

After thorough investigation, they later got to know that the Corpse that was supposed to be taken to Ode was still lying in the morgue.

Our correspondent also gathered that the family of the missing corpse at Ijebu Ode was contacted, after which the Corpse buried was exhumed after some traditional rites on Saturday April 8, 2023.

The missing Corpse family got to know that their mother was the one that was mistakingly burial by the other family as a tag was found on the Corpse's wrist showing the name of the Corpse which was in correlation with what they have on their register at OOUTH.

The two families can now proceed in burying their mothers for the truth has finally prevailed.
