Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa state has been criticised for lack of clear cut policies on education, housing, employment and other critical sectors of the state.
Former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, made the observation on Sunday at a press conference in Keffi, where he stated that Governor Al-Makura has also lost steam in the provision of much needed infrastructure in the state.
Hon. Wadada expressed disapproval of the state government’s plan to review the implementation of N18, 000 minimum wage salary structure in the state, noting that government hastily approved the current structure in 2011 for immediate political gains.
Before the government embarked on that minimum wage, which put Nasarawa on the lead out of all the states in Nigeria as per the highest payers of minimum wage, I don’t know the parameter or indices the government used but you don’t just embark on a policy for temporary political goals as they did”.
The former lawmaker however commended the Nasarawa state government for embarking on the Treasury Single Account but advised them to utilise the policy effectively.
Commenting on the recent sack of a worker, Ruqayyat Tijjani, over Facebook comments urging the state government to enlighten the public on the deadly Lassa fever, Hon. Wadada called on Al-Makura to learnt to accept construtive criticism.
“For the lady to have called the attention of government, which is in the interest of the people of Nasarawa state, and that government is sitting on the mandate of the people of the state and you are terminating her appointment just because she has drawn your attention to your fundamental responsibility, which is the wellbeing of the people, what a disgrace” said.t
“The government of APC in Nasarawa state led by Governor Umaru Al-Makura came to power through the ballot which gave him the mandate and then we cannot talk?”
In the same vein, the former Attorney General and commissioner of Justice in the state, Hon. Innocent Lagi, condemned the action, assuring that he would head to court today to challenge the legality of the action of the state government.
