Fear grips OAU students over epidemic fears

Ahead of their second semester examination scheduled to commence in the next two weeks, students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, are afraid there is malaria epidemic on the campus following upsurge in the number of patients visiting the institution’s health centre with similar complaints.
It was learnt that more than 100 students have been down with the disease suspected to be malaria. The symptoms include headache, stomach ache, body weakness, irritation, fever, vomiting, sore throat and loss of appetite, among others.
The development, which many of the students believed requires urgent attention, had reached an alarming stage last Friday when more than 50 students reported to the health centre at a time with similar complaints.
However, the Public Relations’ Officer of the university, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, when contacted, explained that the situation was perfectly under control, saying the students were only reacting to climate change and that it is not peculiar to the campus.
